Devias can now send email through your own Resend account from your automations, and tell you what happened to each message: delivered, bounced, opened or marked as spam.

Devias with Resend

Running a business is full of emails that have to go out at the right moment: the quote you promised, the invoice that is due, the welcome to a new customer. The part people forget is what comes after. Did it arrive? Did it bounce because of a typo in the address? Did anyone open it?

So we connected Devias to Resend, an email service built for exactly these messages. With it, Devias can send an email as one step of an automation, and it hears back from Resend about what happened to every message it sent.

Send an email when something happens

Add a Send an email step to any automation. Say a quote is accepted: the automation can email the customer a confirmation straight away. A new person is added to your CRM: it can send them a welcome.

The step fills in the details from the record that started it, so the email goes to that customer’s address and not a fixed one. You set the sender, the subject and the message, and you can add copies (Cc and Bcc) and a reply-to address. A message can be written as a formatted email or as plain text. If you forget to write one, Devias says so instead of sending an empty email.

The emails go out from your own domain, under your own name, so customers see you and not us.

Hear back about every email

Sending is half of it. When you connect Resend’s reports, Devias learns about each email as it moves along:

  • it was sent, or delivered to the other side;
  • its delivery was delayed and is being tried again;
  • it bounced: the other side rejected it, often because the address does not exist;
  • the person marked it as spam;
  • the person opened it, or clicked a link in it (if you switch on open and click tracking in Resend).

Each of these can start an automation of its own. You could, for example, create a task for someone to check the address whenever an email bounces, or note on a customer’s record that they opened your quote. These are yours to set up, so we do not ship any: what you do with a bounce depends on your business.

Your account, your domain

You bring your own Resend account. Devias talks to Resend directly from your server, so the emails and their reports are between you and Resend. We do not sit in the middle.

Setting it up takes a few minutes:

  1. Add the Email via Resend module to your workspace.
  2. Paste in an API key from Resend. A key that can only send email is enough.
  3. Test the connection. Devias tells you it is connected, and which of your domains are verified, or that you have none yet. Emails can only be sent from a verified domain.
  4. To hear back about deliveries, add the web address Devias shows you under Webhooks in Resend, choose the events you want, and paste the signing secret into the connection.

You can trust the reports

An automation that reacts to a bounce should only react to a real one. Devias checks that every report really came from Resend before it acts on it, using the signing secret, and it ignores anything that is too old, so a copy of an old message cannot be played back later. If you have not added the signing secret, reports are refused rather than trusted blindly. And if Resend sends the same report twice, Devias counts it once.

What it is for, and what it is not

This is for the emails your business sends about one customer, one quote or one invoice, at the moment something happens. It is not for newsletters or campaigns sent to a whole list.

Try it

Add the Email via Resend module, connect your key, and make a small automation that emails you when a record is created. Like the rest of Devias it is open source, and you can read how it is made if you are curious.
